We are delighted to be returning to Catalonia. Once again we will be staying for 9 nights in the seaside town of Lloret De Mar at the 4 star Hotel Aquarium The Catalans are justifiably proud of Catalonia. It is truly one of Spain's most beautiful regions. The area is steeped in history and holds on to its local traditions.

We depart Dublin Airport for our direct scheduled flight from Dublin to Girona. On arrival our coach transfers us to our hotel in Lloret de Mar. The resort lies more or less midway between the historic cities of Girona and Barcelona

A day free to enjoy Lloret de Mar. The town was founded in 1001 AD and has a deep seaside tradition. It has one of the most popular beaches on the Costa Brava, 2 kilometres long with clear water. There is also a medieval fort on the outskirts of the town, the Saint Joan’s castle (castell de sant Joan).

After breakfast you depart on a full day excursion to Barcelona. Barcelona has a wealth of history, art galleries, impressive architecture and of course the chance to go shopping.

A free day of leisure.

After breakfast you depart on a full day excursion to Figueres and Roses. Figueres is a small city in northern Spain and is famous for being the birthplace of Salvador Dalí. Roses is an essentially Mediterranean town with a notable seafaring tradition. It is situated in a stunning natural setting, less than 30 kilometres from France. It has 3000 years of history.

A free day of leisure.

Today we visit Montserrat, with its unique rock formations and dramatic mountain monastery. The monastery is Benedictine. Its monks (only 30 today) wear the Benedictine rope belts with three knots (symbolizing the three rules of St. Benedict: poverty, chastity, and obedience). This has been Catalonias most important pilgrimage site for a thousand years.

A free day of leisure.

After breakfast you depart on an excursion to the Lake of Banyoles. This is the largest lake in Catalonia and was the venue for the rowing events in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. The lake is dominated by the medieval town of Banyoles which dates from 812, having grown up around a Benedictine monastery. You will enjoy its cobbled streets, little squares and historic buildings.

DAY 10

After breakfast we travel to the medieval city of Girona, with its ancient cathedral and city walls. Then its back to Girona airport for our return flight to Dublin.

The average temperature in Lloret de Mar in June is 25c.

Please note that this is our planned itinerary but sometime due to circumstances beyond our control we may have to alter it slightly.
