We would be delighted if you could join us on our 5 day escorted tour to Iceland, home to the largest glacier in Europe as well as some of the world’s most active volcanoes, it is widely known as “The Land of Fire and Ice”. Virtually everybody can speak English and the Irish are always very popular with the Icelanders.
We depart Dublin Airport on our direct scheduled flight to Keflavik. On arrival we are met by Theresa Davey from Mackin Travel and our local tour guide. We are then transferred by coach to our hotel in downtown Reykjavik. We are staying at the Foss Baron hotel for 4 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. www.fosshotel.is
This morning after breakfast we depart on a tour of Reykjavik, the world’s most northerly capital. Reykjavik is a modern city with a variety of restaurants, museums, galleries and theatres. On our tour we will see the Old Town, the parliament, the cathedral and the harbour. The afternoon is then free for you to explore by yourself or maybe pay a visit to the Blue Lagoon.
This morning after breakfast we depart on a full day tour of The Golden Circle. This classic tour takes you from Reykjavik city up to Pingvellir National Park, arguably the most important site in Iceland in terms of history, culture, and geology. A UNESCO world heritage site, Pingvellir National Park is home to Iceland‘s largest natural lake and the place where the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia split and drift apart.
From Pingvellir the tour continues through an area of beautiful scenery towards some of Iceland's greatest natural attractions at Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area. At Gullfoss waterfall you can take a short walk down a pathway and get right up close to this powerful waterfall and feel the mist of glacial water on your face as it cascades down into the narrow Hvítárgljúfur canyon. This is a full day excursion.
Today after breakfast we depart on a full day tour of the South Coast travelling through lush farmlands with views of powerful volcanoes and glaciers, black sand beaches and thundering waterfalls. We visit the iconic Seljalandsfoss waterfall where you can literally walk behind a curtain of water which is certainly a moment you’ll want to capture on camera. We will view the solheimajokull glacier and stop at the glacier tongue. We travel to the small town of Vik, where the beach is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. With black sand, and surprising lava reefs along the shore, there's nothing else like it! The needles of Reynisdrangar, "the trolls' boulders", make this location very famous. According to legend, these rocks are in fact two trolls that were trying to sink a ship along the shore when the sun came out and turned them to stone many years ago. This is a full day excursion.
We have an early departure for our return flight to Dublin.
