8 Day tour of Portugal, Lisbon Coast & Fatima
We would be delighted if you could join us on our 8 day tour to Portugal and the Lisbon Coast. Contact us now if you wish to make a reservation. Please note that if the return flight time on our last day from Lisbon to Dublin does not change we will do the Lisbon excursion on this day. We would then do another excursion to the historic fishing town of Peniche and the quaint market town of Calda da Rainha on Day 3. This excursion would be at no extra charge but if the flight does change to an earlier departure from Lisbon we will do the full day excursion to Lisbon on Day 3.

For centuries there have been very close links between Portugal and Ireland. Since the 1960s the Irish have been mainly holidaying in the commercialised Algarve area. However we are delighted to be staying again in Nazare, Portugal’s most picturesque fishing village just north of Lisbon. Until recently, fishermen were seen using oxen to pull their brightly painted boats from the ocean and even today many locals still wear their characteristic traditional costumes. Our base for 7 nights is the 4 star Hotel Praia www.hotelpraia.com
It has a perfect location being very central yet only 50 metres from the magnificent beach. The hotel has its own indoor/outdoor heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, gymnasium and solarium all on the 5th floor with a panoramic view of all Nazare. All rooms are equipped with private bathroom with hair drier, TV LCD, telephone, air conditioning and balcony.
We depart Dublin Airport for our direct scheduled flight to Lisbon. On arrival you will be met by Frank Mackin who is leading the group and will arrange your transfer by coach to our hotel in Nazare on the Lisbon Coast.
A whole free day to enjoy Nazare and the Lisbon Coast and there is so much to experience. Along the seafront the fishermen still dry their catch and mend their boats. A throng of craft shops and cafes stretches the length of the Avenida Marginal, as well as restaurants serving a great variety of the local speciality, which is of course fish. We recommend that you take the funicular train that runs from the beach up to the old upper town. The views are breathtaking.
After enjoying breakfast, we head to Lisbon which is the capital of Portugal. We have the full day here to enjoy its many sights. It is known as the world’s first true city, the capital of an empire spreading over all countries, from South America to Asia. It is forever known as the city of explorers. You will soak up the atmosphere of its elegant 18th century squares and its medieval district overlooked by its ancient castle. You’re sure to become mesmerized by Lisbon’s wonderful mix of the old-fashioned and the hip.
Another day of leisure to enjoy the many delights of Nazare. The average temperature in June is 26 degrees Celsius and 10 hours of sunshine each day.
After breakfast we travel to the ancient town of Alcobaca. We have time to visit its Cistercian Monastery. It’s one of the most magnificent gothic monuments in the country and was the first gothic building in Portugal dating back to the 12th century and is also the longest. We then travel to Fatima, one of the worlds most important shrines dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The sanctuary welcomes millions of pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon after another memorable day.
Another free day to enjoy this idyllic haven overlooking the Atlantic.
After enjoying breakfast we travel to the city of Coimbra. This is a special place in the hearts of all the Portuguese. Rich in its history and said to be the oldest seat of learning in Portugal with a University founded on the 13th of August 1290. This makes it one of the oldest in the world. Over the years our clients hve loved the pedestrianised area in the old city with its reasonable restaurants and shops. Its a truly lovely small city. We return to Nazare in the afternoon.
We transfer back to Lisbon Airport for our return flight to Dublin.
Please note that this is our planned itinerary but sometimes due to circumstances outside our control we may have to alter it slightly.
