We are delighted to give you the opportunity to join our fantastic shopping tour led by Ms Theresa Davey to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, which is set along the Danube River by the border with Austria and Hungary. It’s surrounded by vineyards and the Little Carpathian Mountains. The pedestrian-only, 18th-century old town is known for its lively bars and cafes. Perched atop a hill, the reconstructed Bratislava Castle overlooks the old town and the Danube.
We depart Dublin on our direct flight to Bratislava. On arrival you will then be transferred by coach to our hotel in Bratislava. We are based for the next 3 nights in the 4* Hotel Devin situated in the historic centre of Bratislava on the banks of the River Danube. Rooms overlook the Danube or the Old Town, the restaurant serves gourmet cuisine and it has a spa centre and a squash court.
The air-conditioned rooms come with free coffee and tea making facilities, a flat-screen TV, a laptop-size safe and free wired and Wi-Fi internet access.
Today is a free day for you to make a start on your Christmas shopping. The Christmas market of Bratislava has a unique atmosphere and attracts thousands of visitors each day who come together to enjoy pancakes or mulled wine. The programme on the Main Square offers visitors carols, Christmas songs and dances from all regions of Slovakia. You can enjoy the tradition of the Christmas market in almost every part of Bratislava. Hviezdoslav’s square is only a few meters walk from the Main Square. It is bigger and has more stands where you can buy food or some nice souvenirs. The markets begin right in front of the national theater, and are spread along the majority of the square.
After breakfast we depart the hotel at 9.30am for an excursion to Vienna to visit the unique Christmas markets which are very popular in Vienna during the advent season. These romantic street markets enjoy a long tradition, with a history in Austria (as well as the rest of German speaking Europe) dating back to the Middle Ages.
The markets are mostly located in larger squares and pedestrian zones in Vienna and sell food, drinks and seasonal items from open-air stalls. We depart Vienna late afternoon and return to Bratislava.
After breakfast and checkout we depart the hotel for the airport in time for our return flight to Dublin.
